Reiki Trainings

Reiki is not taught in the way other healing techniques are taught. It cannot be learned from books or from lectures. The ability to perform the healing art is transferred from a Reiki Master to the student during a process called an “Empowerment”. It is by Empowerment one becomes a Reiki channel. This will enable the student to be a purer channel for the energy. Reiki is transformed from a master to student by a sacred procedure called Reiki Empowerment. when one is empowered then one can heal themselves or others by Reiki energy. During the Empowerment, the student’s chakras and energy pathways are adjusted to accommodate the ability to channel the Reiki energy and the student is linked to the Reiki source. The Empowerment process is guided from the Higher Power, where the Reiki energy originates from. The Reiki Empowerment can also act as a cleansing process that affects the entire body, physically, mentally and emotionally.

Anyone can be initiated to Reiki. The Empowerment process enables the recipient to be permanently open and connected to the Universal Energy on mental, physical, emotional and psychic level. It also clears and balances many important energy channels within the body. Each Empowerment received, opens up to higher levels of healing and understanding of Spirituality. Once attuned to the energy, you never lose it. It is safe and easy to use anytime, any place, any situation and it can never be used to manipulate or control anything. This Empowerment has three levels and these three levels are three degrees of Reiki Trainings.

First degree(Shoden)

The first degree Reiki course teaches the basic theories and procedures of how to work with Reiki energy. The channel through which Reiki energy passes to the practitioner is said to be opened or widened through four "empowerments" given to the student by the teacher. Students learn hand placement positions on the recipient's body that are thought to be most conducive to the healing process in a whole body treatment. Having completed the first degree course, the participant can treat himself and others with Reiki. The course duration is one day.

Second degree(Okuden)

In the second degree Reiki course, the student learns the use of three symbols which are said to enhance the healing effect and allow for distance healing. Another empowerment is given which is said to further increase the capacity for Reiki to flow through the student, as well as empowering the use of the symbols. Having completed the second level, the student can allegedly treat people with Reiki without being physically present with the recipient. The first degree is a prerequisite for the second degree, which is usually taught over one or two days.

Third degree or master training(Shinpiden)

Through the third degree, or "master training",the student becomes a Reiki Master. (In Reiki terminology, the word 'master' does not imply spiritual enlightenment.) One or more empowerments are carried out and the student learns a further master-level symbol. Having completed the master training, the new Reiki Master can attune other people to Reiki and teach the three degrees of Reiki. The first and second degrees are prerequisites for the master training. The duration of the master training can be anything from a day to a year or more, depending on disciples experience with Reiki. In the case of comprehensive training, the third level is often broken into two or three smaller stages of empowerments and teaching.

As said before, Reiki is a technique that is passed on from teacher to student over and over. So it has a legacy of lineage. If one is empowered in Reiki, then she/he will be part of a succession of teachers leading back to the founder of the system of Reiki one is practicing. In the case of Traditional Reiki, the lineage would lead back to Dr. Usui.
